I actually don’t know what the BBC stands for any more. I happened to be at the Tory party conference a couple of years ago and listened to a very disturbing speech by the current DG. I don’t believe it was reported anywhere, but I left wondering how the organization could possibly survive with any independence as a public service broadcaster. The fact that they’re using DRM (digital rights management) to “protect” their content is further proof of the great distance they’ve traveled since the lofty but well-intentioned days of Reith. If you believe the BBC should be more freely available (especially to the people who are forced under threat of criminal prosecution – the license payers) to pay for it – maybe you should support this campaign.
