And now for the least surprising book deal of the year:
Random House has won the battle for Tony Blair’s memoirs. The book will be published in the UK by Hutchinson, and by Alfred A Knopf in the US and Canada. The fee paid has not been disclosed but estimates reported in the UK press suggest a figure of between £5m and £6m–less than the anticipated £8m many thought the book would fetch.

As I’ve just commented on The Bookseller’s blog:
Good for Blair. As the selfless, ethically-motivated politician that we know him to be, I’m sure he’ll do the right thing and donate his advance & any royalty(?) to care for all the widows and orphans he’s created both in Britain and Iraq.
