Fascinating piece from a Lockheed Martin employee about terraforming Mars – and beyond. He may be the first person to establish a dollar value on Mars realty; “Sold at an average value of $10 per acre, Mars would be worth $358 billion.” The whole thing strikes me as full of human hubris, but I’m sure it will happen (probably much sooner than is generally expected). At which point, Earth will become not so much a mother-planet, but a sort of post-industrial Pittsburgh – burnt out, polluted, and generally not the place to live at all.
