I fondly imagined that this might be the only rotifer video on YouTube - not a bit of it, there seems to be a very enthusiastic bunch of video-microscopy freaks hanging out there who even use electron microscopes to pursue their passion. However, this is my first rotifer video, so please excuse the rough edges.
Rotifers are extraordinary microscopic animals (this is magnified about 150x) whose precision nano-engineering puts Swiss watchmakers to shame. The amazing ciliated tufts around the mouth created a vortex that sweeps food into their mouths - just watch!
No other post on this day.
Are you saying you filmed this? What did you did you use - your telescope?
Back in my lab days I sometimes was tempted to look at the micro-organisms that infected my tissue culture plates.
But not for long. I mostly hoovered them up and blasted the cells with antibiotics and fungizone…
Wow, that is incredible. Did you make this video? It’s unbelievable to think all this activity goes on beyond the scope of the naked eye.
What an amazing creature - look at that woman go!!
Yes, it’s my first video down the ’scope. Micro, not tele, MG. Quite simple, clamped the Sony over the eyepiece, and hey presto! Dyson performed magnificently! S/he is now happily back in tank no. 3 (the one without UV).
That is actually pretty, pretty cool!
