Typical big-company cock-up from Selfridges this month. There is little good reason to have a Selfridges card, bearing in mind the punitive interest they charge (a whopping 27.7% - and a “rip off†according to the Daily Telegraph). I’ve kept mine largely because I couldn’t get round to cancelling it. A nasty letter from their “Collections Manager†comes today alleging I haven’t paid their latest statement – which is not true.
A call to their very uninterested collections department yields no results. Finally, after a huge waste of my own time, their customer services department admits that “a lot†of Selfridges customers have received letters like this – and have been charged £10 “Arrears Fee†to boot.
What do they intend to do about it? Well, they’ll refund the arrears fee. Big deal! What about my credit record, and all my time they’ve wasted? They will amend the credit record (in a month!) but nothing more.
So – my credit record is blackened for the next month (at least) and not any whiff of apology or compensation. Gee… they really know how to make a customer feel wanted.
I closed my account on the spot.
