It’s not the SAME as a movie seen at the cinema but in terms of visual reduction it’s surely of a similar order of magnitude as full screen movie-house to ordinary telly? Which presumably Lynch would approve of? I’d like the see the X vs Y plot of reduction factor against Movie Experience and know at which point exactly do you fail adequately to experience the movie…
iPod/iPhone movies are the new survival tool in long-distance plane or road travel for people with young children. 18 hours across Cuba with nothing but one colouring book and an iPod stacked with children’s films…worked wonders!
Well, you could argue that it’s all a matter of the angle that subtends at the eye… that a 10cm screen held at 0.5m would create the same experience as a larger screen much further away… except it’s not! None of those first-run films you seen on planes are really memorable, for the same reason… it’s just not an immersive experience. But like the way mp3s have degraded the hi-fi listening experience.
