Chris Eubank

I know Chris Eubank, who’s just been arrested for staging a protest outside Downing Street against the Iraq war, and I’ve had the exhilarating experience of speeding round London (the narrow lanes of Mayfair, to be precise) in his gigantic Peterbilt rig.  The traffic wardens just wave and smile – Chris can park virtually anywhere he wants.  He’s an eccentric, true, and a frustrating person in some ways.  But he’s a lot more than that.  He’s a wizard at chess – I never came close to beating him.  His strength is truly extraordinary, both physical and mental.  He is highly perceptive, too, and capable of the most profound insights.  He’s genuine enigma – a one-off.  I wish him well.
