In the world of the underwater gardener, the name Takashi Amano is sacrosanct. His god-like creations are the envy of aquarists everywhere. The guy is so famous he’s even had a shrimp named after him (which, incidentally, I’ve bred -no mean feat). Here is a typical Amano layout:

They are strikingly minimalist, bold, and very reminiscent of the Chinese / Japanese Zen garden - but underwater.
Thing is, I think they’re boring.
I’ll admit that they have a huge initial impact. But after that - what?
I find myself quickly tiring of them.
By comparison (and for those in the know, what I’m about to commit is an act of extraordinary hubris) my own humble designs are (for me, at any rate) far more interesting and satisfying. And they make better homes for their inhabitants, too.
